College Background
The College was established by Catholic Missionaries called Holy Ghost Fathers in 1926. Upon its establishment, the trainings offered were based on vocational education, especially Carpentry, Tailoring and later Grade II teachers programme that were prepared for Middle Schools. Other teachers training courses were introduced later where in 1933 Grade I teachers programme was introduced; Certificate in Education programme (Grade IIIA) was introduced in 1961 as well as Diploma in Secondary Education programme in 1970 after the college being promoted and officially opened in 1966.
The college was officially handed over to the Government of United Republic of Tanzania in 1970. Morogoro Teachers College is one of 36 Government Teachers Colleges in Tanzania Mainland and is one of the Colleges currently offering Advanced Secondary Education, Ordinary Diploma in Science, Mathematics, ICT and Languages (English language and Kiswahili Language) since 2016. Other courses that have been offered include Ordinary Diploma in Primary Education (ODPE) from 2014 to 2016.
Location
Morogoro Teachers College is located in Morogoro region, five kilometers from Morogoro town center along old Dar-es-salaam road, the college is situated on the slopes of Uluguru mountain with attractive cool and conducive environment of coastal mountainous climate with conserved natural vegetation.
